Types of Dentures

Full Conventional Denture

If the patient is already edentulous and has an existing set of dentures, a new max/mand denture can be made $1500 total for upper and lower denture.

Immediate Denture

Placed immediately after extractions to prevent gaps. Requires relining or replacement once your gums fully heal.

Partial Denture

Replaces some missing teeth while anchoring to remaining natural teeth. Preserves your remaining teeth.

Implant-Supported Denture

Attached to dental implants for superior stability. Requires referral for implant placement.

Getting Dentures: Step by Step

1. Consultation and exam to assess your needs and options.
2. Extractions of any remaining non-savable teeth, if needed.
3. Impressions of your gums and any remaining teeth.
4. Bite registration to capture how your teeth fit together.
5. Try-in of the wax-up model to check appearance and fit.
6. Final denture placement once the custom denture is complete.
7. Follow-up adjustments over the first few weeks to optimize comfort.

Adjustment Period

New dentures take getting used to. Most patients need 2-6 weeks to adapt, during which:

• Eating feels different. Start with soft foods and cut into small pieces.
• Speaking may feel awkward at first. Reading aloud helps.
• Saliva flow increases. This settles down in a few days.
• Sore spots may develop. We adjust the denture to relieve them.

Caring for Your Dentures

• Remove and rinse dentures after eating.
• Brush dentures daily with a denture brush and cleanser (not regular toothpaste, which is too abrasive).
• Soak dentures overnight in water or denture solution.
• Continue to care for your remaining teeth and gums.
• Come in for checkups every 6-12 months.

When Dentures Need Replacement or Adjustment

• Looseness or slipping
• Sore spots that persist
• Cracks or breaks (see denture repair)
• Worn teeth or chewing surfaces
• Changes in fit as your jaw bone changes shape
