Most general dental offices refer surgical cases to an outside oral surgeon. We do not. Our doctors have extensive oral surgery training, including hospital-based externships at Detroit Receiving Hospital, Broward General, and Memorial Hospital. That means faster scheduling, less back-and-forth, and one consistent team from diagnosis through recovery.
Oral surgery at Macomb Emergency Dental Clinic covers simple and complex extractions, wisdom teeth removal, and emergency treatment of traumatic injuries like knocked-out or displaced teeth. All surgical cases benefit from our on-site Cone Beam CT scanner, which gives us a 3D view of the jaw, nerves, and sinuses for safer planning.

What to Expect With Oral Surgery
Most of our oral surgery is performed under local anesthesia, which means you remain awake but feel no pain. For complex cases, we offer oral sedation to help you relax. You will receive clear written aftercare instructions, including what to eat, how to manage swelling, and when to call us with concerns.
Recovery Timeline

Day 1-2:
Rest, ice, soft foods. Some swelling and bleeding are normal.
Day 3-5:
Swelling peaks and starts to resolve. Soft foods continue.
Week 1:
Most patients return to normal activity. Socket begins to heal.
Week 2-4:
Soft tissue heals. Bone healing continues for several months.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will it hurt?
Local anesthesia blocks pain during the procedure. Mild to moderate soreness is normal for 1-3 days after and is managed with over-the-counter medications for most patients.
Do I need to be put under?
Most extractions are done under local anesthesia only. For anxious patients or complex wisdom teeth cases, we offer oral sedation. We do not offer IV sedation or general anesthesia in-office.
Can I drive myself home?
After local anesthesia only, yes. After oral sedation, no. We will tell you in advance what to plan for.
How long until I can eat normally?
Soft foods for 24-48 hours. Most patients return to normal diet within a week, avoiding the extraction site.
What if I get dry socket?
Dry socket occurs in 2-5% of extractions, usually within 3-5 days. Call us immediately if you have sudden severe pain after initial healing. It is easily treated in our office.
Yes, we welcome walk-in patients during our normal business hours. We do our best tosee you as quickly as possible.
